MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS – Grades 5-8, Monday, March 20, 2017
GRADE 8 CLASS MEETING – Grade 8 reps will be meeting with their homerooms at some time this week to get ideas for end of the year activities.
Reps, we will meet again this Friday during reward block to see what you’ve come up with.
HARRY POTTER HOUSE CARD CONTEST AND SPIRIT DAY– For every Falcon Pride card you get this week, you will also get a Harry Potter House Card. Please put both cards in the container where you put your Falcon Pride cards. Each day, student reps will remove the Harry Potter cards and bring them to the office and put them in the basket for your house. Grades 5 and 6 are are in the Hufflepuff House, so your cards get combined together in the Hufflepuff basket. Grades 7 and 8 are in the Gryffindor House and will combine their cards together in the Gryffindor basket. You will also be competing against K-4 classrooms, which make up the Ravenclaw and Slytherin houses. At the end of the week, we’ll see which house has the most cards.
Remember, this Friday is the Harry Potter Spirit Day. Grade levels will be dressing up in the colors of the various houses. Grades K-2 will represent Slytherine and wear sliver and green. Grades 3-4 will represent Ravenclaw and wear blue and bronze. Grades 5 and 6 will represent Hufflepuff and will dress in yellow and black. Grades 7 and 8 will represent Griffindor and will wear red and gold. That evening, the first Harry Potter movie will be shown at our K-8 Movie Night starting at 5:45. Doors open at 5:15. The movie and popcorn are free. Other items will be on sale. Students are to attend the movie with parents.
5-8 FIELD TRIP TO EHS TOMORROW – Students with work completed for 2nd trimester will go up to EHS tomorrow to see their jazz band, jazz choir, and show choir perform. Grades 5-7 will go in the morning and grade 8 will go in the afternoon. Those who need time to complete last trimester’s work will use that time to get the work done.
GRADES 5 and 6 COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AND ESSAYS ARE DUE FRIDAY – 5th and 6th graders who are applying for a $100 college scholarship are reminded that your application is due this Friday with your essay and your recommendations.
PERMISSION FORMS FOR REWARD TRIP COME OUT THIS WEEK – Next week is our week for the 2nd Trimester Reward Trip to Eastward Lanes. To be eligible for the trip, you have to meet or exceed the Habits of Work Standards for 2nd trimester, which means you need a rating of a 3 or a 4 for all of your HOW ratings. 8th graders will get their permission slips on Thursday of this week because your trip comes up next Monday. Students in grades 5, 6, and 7 will get permission forms on Friday. For this trip, it is okay to get the form in on the day we go on the trip. Grade 6, you go next Tuesday, Grade 5 goes on Wednesday, and grade 7 goes on Thursday.
MEA TESTING STARTS THIS WEEK – EEMS students in grades 5 and grade 8 will begin the annual Maine Educational Assessment this week. Grade 7 will follow on the week of March 27 and grade six will test on the week of April 3. The tests are spread out over five days and measure our students against state learning standards. Please do your very best.
OPEN HOUSE AT EHS FOR 8th GRADERS IS THIS WEDNESDAY – Tonight’s Open House at EHS for our current 8th graders has been moved to next Wednesday, March 21. The event begins at 6PM in the auditorium.
JAZZ BAND PERFORMS AT STATES THIS SATURDAY – Our Jazz Band competes in the State Instrumental Jazz Festival this coming Saturday in Millinocket. Departure time is 1:30 PM with a 4:35 warm up and performance at 5PM.
JAZZ NIGHT At EHS – This event has been added to the March calendar, for Thursday, March 30. EHS and EEMS jazz bands and show choirs will perform. The EEMS jazz band will be playing from 5:30-6PM as the audience enters the auditorium. The show will formally start at 6PM. EEMS jazz band students are to be at EHS by 5:15PM.
MARCH MADNESS RAFFLE UPDATE – Friday’s winning ticket went to Dave Oertel. He won a $25 gift card to Maine Pet and Aquariaum and a $10 gift card to the Mex.
EHS REGISTRATION – CALL FOR APPOINTMENT – Parents of 8th graders are to call us at 667-6241 to make an appointment to register their child for EHS. Registration takes place on March 27 and 28. You will be signing up for classes for next year at this meeting.
HANCOCK COUNTY FOOD DRIVE RUNS ALL MONTH. – If you can bring in a food item for the Hancock County Food Drive, it would be greatly appreciated.
