Transportation Changes at EEMS

Dear EEMS Parents:

We are writing today to inform you of changes we will be implementing in our morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up procedures to enhance the safety of students, staff and parents and to request your assistance in those efforts.  To make our drop off and pick up procedure safer and more efficient, we will be initiating the following measures beginning April 1, 2019:

  • Blocking off the sidewalk parking spaces with signs designating parking for the Ellsworth School Department vans used for specialized student transportation;

  • Installing signage indicating the designated spaces;

  • School staff will be present to help direct traffic while we transition to our new procedures;

  • In addition to signage identifying all ESD Vans used for specialized transportation, we will be equipping all vans with a handicap placard to be used as necessary.

  • When weather permits, we will be painting curbs and spaces to designate the van parking.

To support our new procedures, enhance the efficiency of the process, and ensure the highest level of safety for our students, we ask for your understanding and assistance.  Making sure your children are ready to get out as they enter the loop, not attempting to pass each other while in the loop should allow the traffic flow to be safer and more efficient.

Please:

  • Have your kiddos ready to get out quickly when being dropped off (You could say your goodbyes before arriving at school);

  • Have your child exit the vehicle curb-side;

  • Do not pass drivers, block in parked cars, or double park;

  • Park in the appropriate parking lot if you are coming into the building – either the parking lot adjacent to the Softball field or the spaces within Newett Circle;

  • Be patient and kind to one another-that’s a great model for the kids!

As we move forward into spring and the final months of the year, please let us know if you have any questions about the new procedures.
