Ellsworth School Department Implements New “ESD Lunch Box” Program to Support Students

Research demonstrates that good student health and well-being is directly linked academic achievement.  Part of a healthy lifestyle is a nutritious and balanced diet and eating regular meals.   In support of that research and in response to the increased number of families experiencing difficult times, the Ellsworth School Department has initiated a new program known as the “ESD Lunch Box.”  The program was created to provide balanced and nutritious meals to children who, due to difficult and challenging circumstances in their or their families’ lives, are not able to afford breakfast and lunch in our schools, specifically those who do not meet the eligibility requirements for free or reduced breakfasts and lunches through the National School Lunch Program.  Through this program, individuals or groups may donate funds to the ESD Lunch Box account for the purpose of supporting students who truly cannot afford meals.  Donated funds received will be placed in an account specifically for school meal purposes and distributed based on needs identified by school and food service administration.  For those interested in making donations, please send a check made out to the Ellsworth School Department Lunch Box or call our office at (207) 664-7100 for more information.  We appreciate any and all support provided on behalf of our students in need.
