Morning Announcements – Monday, December 1, 2014

1. There is no boys’ varsity basketball practice today (Monday).

2. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week, those students who want to walk and sing in Saturday’s parade with EEMS will be meeting in the cafeteria from 7:55 to 8:10 to practice the songs. Please make sure you return the permission form to take part. If you are in band or chorus on those days, go to band or chorus.

3. 7th grader Rory Burmeister has started a food drive for cats and dogs that will benefit the SPCA of Hancock County. There is a box in the main lobby where those who wish to donate can drop off these specific brands of food: Purina Cat Chow Complete (blue bag), 9 Lives canned cat food, Friskies Classic Pate, Purina Dog Chow with real lamb and rice (red bag), and Purina Dog Chow – Healthy Life Nutrition (green bag). This drive will conclude on December 12. Thanks for your help!

4. Mr. Stephenson and Mrs. Cox would like to thank the cast and crew of "Xanadu" for putting on an awesome show. You did a great job of acting, dancing, singing and projecting. Each show was better than the one before it, which shows focus and the desire to be the best!. Be proud of your hard work. You are great! I would also like to thank the cast, crew, Mr. Stephenson, Mrs. Cox, and all those who supported the production of Xanadu. The 50 students involved in this production sure put on a great show, which we all enjoyed. Your hard work certainly paid off.

5. Show choir auditions will take place this Thursday from 3-4:30 in the elementary music room. You do NOT have to audition if you were in the Xanadu musical or have been in a previous EEMS show choir production. If you are not in these two groups, we'll see you on Thursday. All those interested in show choir do need to turn in a permission form even if you don’t need an audition. Permission forms will be given out at lunch and can also be picked up in the office.

6. Our first chess meet is this Wednesday, December 3. There will be a brief parent meeting following the chess meet at 5PM. This is also the day that order forms for Chess Team t-shirts and sweatshirts are due.

Other chess meets at EEMS are on Tuesday, January 20 and Thursday, February 5. The State Chess Meet is at UMO on March 7.

Parent volunteers are needed for all of our meets. Please call Karen at 667-8505 or Coach Wilson at 667-0274 if you can lend a hand.

7. Our first home basketball games are this Wednesday and Thursday. Students are welcome to stay and watch the games. Games will get over at about 6:15PM.

8. Rollerblading is the next physical education activity for all 5th – 8th grade students. Please bring a cap or other hair protection to wear under the helmet when you have phys. ed.

9. Raffle tickets for Isabelle the American Girl Doll and raffle tickets for a remote control helicopter and laser tag tanks are on sale in the front lobby each morning until 8:10. Tickets are $1 or 6 for $5. Proceeds to benefit the 8th grade class.

10. Parents of our 7th and 8th graders are encouraged to attend a public meeting at EHS this Thursday at 6:30 PM to get a status update on EHS’ shift to proficiency-based teaching, learning, and grading. This is important because our current 8th grade students will be required to meet proficiency standards in order to graduate from high school. The traditional 0-100 scale will no longer be utilized.

11. Happy Birthday wishes this week go out to Sunny Wight, Brody Mercier, and Kendra Bryant.
