Morning Announcements - December 2, 2014

Morning Announcements – Tuesday, December 2, 2014

1. There is a Board Workshop tonight at 6:30PM in the EEMS cafeteria that is open to the public about the Facilities Usage Policy. This policy focuses on the conditions under which groups outside of the school department can utilize school buildings. Items such as building use fees, insurance, and custodial coverage will all be discussed. Public input is welcome.

2. Parents of our 7th and 8th graders are encouraged to attend a public meeting at EHS this Thursday at 6:30 PM to get a status update on EHS’ shift to proficiency-based teaching, learning, and grading. This is important because our current 8th grade students will be required to meet proficiency standards in order to graduate from high school. The traditional 0-100 scale will no longer be utilized

3. Our first chess meet is tomorrow, December 3. There will be a brief parent meeting following the chess meet at 5PM. This is also the day that order forms for Chess Team t-shirts and sweatshirts are due.

4. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week, those students who want to walk and sing in Saturday’s parade with EEMS will be meeting in the cafeteria from 7:55 to 8:10 to practice the songs. Please make sure you return the permission form to take part. If you are in band or chorus on those days, go to band or chorus.

5. Our first home basketball games are tomorrow and Thursday. Students are welcome to stay and watch the games. Games will get over at about 6:15PM.

6. Show choir auditions will take place this Thursday from 3-4:30 in the elementary music room. You do NOT have to audition if you were in the Xanadu musical or have been in a previous EEMS show choir production. If you are not in these two groups, we'll see you on Thursday. All those interested in show choir do need to turn in a permission form even if you don’t need an audition. Permission forms will be given out at lunch and can also be picked up in the office.

7. Teachers who volunteered to help organize holiday activities are to meet with Mrs. Roper at 3PM on Thursday in the computer lab.

8. Students are reminded to bring hair protection for roller blading to each PE class.

9. 7th grader Rory Burmeister has started a food drive for cats and dogs that will benefit the SPCA of Hancock County. There is a box in the main lobby where those who wish to donate can drop off these specific brands of food: Purina Cat Chow Complete (blue bag), 9 Lives canned cat food, Friskies Classic Pate, Purina Dog Chow with real lamb and rice (red bag), and Purina Dog Chow – Healthy Life Nutrition (green bag). This drive will conclude on December 12. Thanks for your help!

10. Raffle tickets for Isabelle the American Girl Doll and raffle tickets for a remote control helicopter and laser tag tanks are on sale in the front lobby each morning until 8:10. Tickets are $1 or 6 for $5. Proceeds to benefit the 8th grade class.
