Morning Announcements – Friday, December 5, 2014

1. 8th graders will have Garden Club today. You will meet in Mr. Ormsby’s room.

2. We have our first Gold Wing Assembly today. Let’s end our last class at 1PM and then head to the gym. It’s grade 8’s turn to sit on the floor.

3. The start time for today’s leadership team meeting is at 11:30AM.

4. Teachers are reminded that at PLC, the essential standards developed in math and ELA over the workshop days are to be shared with other members of your team.

5. We have two weeks and two days to go before our annual Talent Show for grades 5-8. If you’d like to be in the talent show, please sign up for an audition time on the posters located on the cafeteria windows. Auditions will take place during SSR in the cafeteria starting next week and the week after. Student reps are welcome to come and help judge the auditions.

6. If you auditioned for Show Choir yesterday, your letters are in the office.

Our first show choir get together is next Tuesday from 2:45-3. You'll be getting materials and paperwork to get filled out. Everyone should attend! (you'll be out in time for cheering and basketball practices).

If you want to be in show choir this year, you MUST have turned in your signed show choir permission form. If the form is not turned in, you may not even attend rehearsals. So please turn them into Mr. Stephenson or the office ASAP!

7. The JV Falcon Basketball Boys Team took on their rivals from Bucksport Thursday. Remembering the JV's two losses last year, the game was one that the boys' team looked forward to since the first day of practice.

The starters quickly solidified the defensive game plan with the full court press and poured in shot after shot. Austin Harris didn't score for the first three quarters because, as the team's starting point guard, he got his teammates shot after shot and selflessly passed at every opportunity to finish with 13 assists. As the starting, Center Darby Barry shot and rebounded well all game and finished the game with 14 points while small forward Mark Long donated 12 points to the cause. Matt Reid came in off the bench and stole the ball several times to put his team in position to finish strongly. First year player Deyan Rich found his shot and contributed 6 rebounds and 5 points to the Falcons, and Mike Kazmierczak got 5 steals as the boys went on to pay back their rivals from last year by winning this match-up 52-25.

8. Our girls' varsity kicked their season off by traveling to Bucksport yesterday. We fell behind, caught up, fell behind, caught up, fell behind, caught up. That continued until the last four minutes of the game. At that point, we simply ran out of gas. We ended up on the short end of a 34-26 score. But the effort was there, and we played as a team. Practice tomorrow from 8-10.

9. The JV Falcon Girls traveled to Bucksport last night to play the Lady Bucks. The Falcons fell to the home team by a score of 34 to 15. The Falcons played very hard in their first game of the season. Scoring for the Falcons were Elise Dow with 4 points, Edie Salzig with 5 points, and Kylie Robidoux with 6 points.

10. The varsity boys came up short in their bid against an experienced Bucksport squad that had two of their leading scorers back from last year’s team. Despite strong defensive efforts by two seventh graders, Connor Crawford and Jackson Curtis, those players were able to score 33 points between them and lead the Bucks to a 59 to 48 win.
Ellsworth stayed close until midway through the second period when a series of nice shots missed their marks while the Bucks made every attempt count including some deep three’s as they raced out to an 18 point halftime lead.
Ellsworth was able to outscore the Bucks 26 to 19 in the second half but it was not enough to overcome the Bucks’ big second period.
Atticus Deeny led the scorers for the Falcons with fifteen points and Hunter Fernald added eleven. They and Matt Burnett, who was playing in his first ever basketball game, also were very strong on the boards against some big players for the Bucks. Curtis had nine points, Crawford six points, Riley Grindle five points and Darby Barry two points to give the Falcons their 48 points.
Tyler Mitchell, Connor Deraps, Jacob Morton and Sam Holler played strong defense for the Falcons.
The team’s next practice is at 3 on Monday as we prepare for a stretch of four games from next Wednesday through the following Monday
