October Calendar of Events for Grades 5-8


GRADE 5 FIELD TRIP TO WOODLAWN - , Tuesday, October 3. This is an all day “field day” with a rotation through stations of historical and agricultural significance. A bag lunch is needed.

GRADE 8 TRIP TO THE GRAND – Tuesday, October 3. The 8th grade will be seeing “Frankenstein” on the stage at The Grand, which ties in nicely with the work being done in English-Language Arts.

WALK to SCHOOL DAY – Wednesday, October 4. Buses will drop K-8 students off behind the Riverside Café on Franklin Street and students will be walking to EEMS.

NO SCHOOL – Monday, October 9 is the Columbus Day holiday.

PTF MEETING – Tuesday, October 10 at 3PM in the library.

ESD BOARD MEETINGTuesday, October 10, 6:30 PM at City Hall and on the local cable TV channel.

PARENT VOLUNTEER TRAINING – Wednesday, October 11 at 6PM in the library. This half-hour session will allow parents to help at out at school, go on Field Trips, help at Field Day, etc. This needs to be done annually.

BOOK FAIR – Week of October 16-20.

MAINE HARVEST DAY LUNCH – October 18 - is the day that our hot lunch will feature Maine products, including some from our garden.

5-8 PICTURE DAY – Wednesday, October 18. Order form will go out in advance.

PROGRESS REPORTS GO HOME – Wednesday, October 18 is the day mid-trimester reports are sent home to students in grades 5-8.

TULIP PLANTING – Thursday, October 19 is when all K-8 students will add to our tulip garden with a lot of support from the Ellsworth Garden Club.

ACTIVITY NIGHT – Friday, October 20. Grade 5 is from 4-6, with a $3 entry fee. Grades 6-8 is from 6:30-9 with a $5 entry fee. Out of town students can attend the 6-8 event.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES – Monday and Thursday, October 23 and 26 from 3-7PM for grades 5, 6, and 7. Grade 8 has conferences on Wednesday, October 18 and Monday October 23. Each grade level will be in contact with parents to set up conferences through a flyer, and email, or both.

HALLOWEEN SPIRIT DAY – Friday, October 27 is a Halloween Spirit Day for grades 5-8. Students may wear costumes to school. No weapons, please. Masks can’t be worn during the day. They can be worn for our costume contest.

GRADE 6 FIELD TRIP – Tuesday, October 31. Trip is to UMO’s Hudson Museum for Day of the Dead Celebration, which will tie in nicely with an upcoming unit on Mexico. A bag lunch is needed
