I am one of the two second grade teachers in the Learning Community, co-teaching with Mrs. Jeannie Kell. I truly enjoy having the opportunity to work with my second grade students when they return back to the Learning Community for their third grade year.

This is my tenth year teaching second grade in Ellsworth following five years as an educational technician in Bangor in Behavior Education and in Title 1 for second and third grade math and reading. I achieved my Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication at the University of Maine, Orono in 1982 and worked for many years in Real Estate in the Bangor area. Finally realizing that I wanted to pursue a career in teaching, I returned to the University of Maine to complete the requirements for elementary certification. While here in Ellsworth I received my Masters of Science degree Education with a concentration in Literacy in 2009.

I have had the pleasure of serving on the Maine Content Literacy Project for five years and worked as a teacher leader and internal literacy coach at EEMS. I am an avid reader and strive to instill a love of reading in my students. I use the Daily 5 and Daily Cafe systems for teaching literacy which create an atmosphere of choice and involvement for my students around reading and writing.
