I graduated from Fort Fairfield High School in 1976 and went on to college at the University of Maine. Upon graduation, I had a bachelor’s degree in Child Development and was licensed to teach regular education K-8 and special education K-12. In 1986 I earned my Master’s Degree in Education through the University of Maine. I have recently taken classwork through the University of Southern Maine and now have the endorsement to teach English Language Learners.
Following my undergraduate work, I moved to Montana where I worked as a teacher in a nursery school for one year. Then I returned to Maine and lived in the Portland area. I worked as a full time tutor in a self contained behavioral classroom. I was then a co-teacher in a special education classroom for severely and multiply handicapped students for one year.
I moved to the Ellsworth area in 1986 and worked in the Surry Elementary School where I taught kindergarten and was also the special education teacher. It was a combined position for two years and then the kindergarten position became full time. In 1991, I stopped teaching in public schools and owned and operated a home based nursery school. Following that, in 1996 I worked for one year at the Pemetic School in Southwest Harbor as a special education teacher at the elementary level. I was then hired as a third grade teacher in a one -year position at the Moore School in Ellsworth. The following year I held the position of migrant teacher at that same school supporting students from families who traveled for seasonal work. Then I took a permanent job in the third grade at the same school. I have been enjoying teaching third grade since.
In the Ellsworth School system, I have served as the team leader for a number of years, a wellness committee member and a member of the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment team. I am a member of the NEA, MEA and the local teacher’s union.
I enjoy teaching students through experiences, projects and activities. I enjoy a healthy lifestyle and try to teach my students to embrace this as well. I have a great love of learning and try to instill that excitement to my students.
