One of our Gifted and Talented Falcons just received some incredible news!

Viviana DiLena, one of our 6th graders at EEMS, has been awarded a huge $750 Johnson and Wolfberg Health Scholarship through the “Future of Maine” foundation! The award recognizes students in Grades 3-11 that show exceptional effort in and out of the classroom and have a passion for pursuing a career in the health industry- two boxes Viviana certainly checks!

Her award winning essay was an awesome first-person account of her aspirations to become an endocrinologist and study medicine at the University of California San Diego! After learning of her cousin’s diagnosis with Type 1 Diabetes, Viviana became inspired and curious- and that curiosity turned into a calling to help others just like her cousin one day!

Future of Maine awards scholarships based on effort- and Viviana sure shows a ton of it! She interviewed another aspiring doctor for her essay- a Columbia University graduate- and wrote about all of the insight she received and advice she was given to continue to follow her dreams! We all know it’s a lot of work- but Vivianna seems super ready, and certainly capable of all of it!

We are so proud of Viviana for her hard work, her passion, and her vision for the future. Congratulations, and best of luck on your journey to becoming Dr. DiLena!!
