The Ellsworth School Department is accepting bids for snow plowing/removal and salting/sanding services for the 2026–2027 season for Ellsworth Elementary/Middle School, Ellsworth High School, and the Ellsworth School Department Bus Garage.
Required plowing and salting/sanding must be completed in the early morning prior to the first scheduled bus departure from the bus garage. All parking lots/areas, roads, bus loops, and sidewalks at bus loops and parent drop-off areas must be cleared prior to scheduled student and bus arrivals, as well as on an as-needed basis.
The contract period is for one (1) season, with bids expressed in terms of price per season, though multiple-year contract bids will also be considered. Payment will be made in two (2) installments, one in December and one in April. Prospective contractors may bid on an individual location, all locations, or any combination of locations; however, the bid must provide separate quotes for each location, as all locations will be awarded individually. Bids must clearly distinguish between snow removal and salting/sanding.
All equipment needed to complete the work must be provided by the bidder and reflected in the bid price. Bidders must indicate in writing the type of equipment they propose to use and provide assurances that they have sufficient contingencies in case of equipment malfunction or breakdown or to deal with heavy snowfall. Bidders must also have access to front-end loaders or other sufficient equipment to move or remove excessive snow as needed.
Bidders must provide proof of Workers' Compensation and General Liability Insurance coverage of not less than $1,000,000 per occurrence with the bid. The Ellsworth School Department reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to accept and/or reject any and all bids. Sealed bids clearly marked "Ellsworth School Department Snow Removal and Salting/Sanding" will be opened and read at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the Ellsworth School Department Superintendent's Office, located at 11 Avery Lane, Ellsworth, ME 04605. Proposals must be received by 3:00 P.M. on October 5, 2026, and may be emailed to Teresa Austin at taustin@ellsworthschools.org, mailed, or dropped off at the Superintendent's Office.
